A Horse and Small Farm Animal Sanctuary 

2026 is a BIG year for us at The Big Purple Barn. It marks TWENTY FIVE years of being in our Bowie community and all that we have built! It is also the 10th anniversary of our ORIGINAL 2016 Unicorn Festival. We began and April celebration each year in 2014 as part of the ASPCA Help a Horse Day initiative. We found the spring event to be so popular, we wanted to make it a themed event that would really rally people around us and the work we do at the sanctuary. Let's be honest, we need community support and funding and we wanted to enage our supporters in a fun way.

We took one look at our amazing grey pony, Pudge, with his flowing mane and magical appearance and thought....UNICORNS! Who doesn't love a unicorn and a little magic?? So, our unicorn celebration was born! We invite you to join us for a day of magic and make believe and we are working hard behind the scenes, right now, to bring you a special event in 2026.
