2026 is a BIG year for us at The Big Purple Barn. It marks TWENTY FIVE years of being in our Bowie community and all that we have built! This winter was difficult on the entire farm, and we were unable to effectively coordinate our hopeful 2026 festival and bring it to you in the way we envisioned and you deserved. While we are unable to host a 2026 festival, we will have some summer unicorn-themed events and activities, and we are already planning for 2027.

 

2027 will mark the 10th anniversary of our ORIGINAL 2017 Unicorn Festival. We began with an annual April celebration in 2014 as part of the ASPCA Help a Horse Day initiative. We found the spring event so popular that we wanted to make it a themed event to really rally people around us and the work we do at the sanctuary. We need community support and funding, and we wanted to engage our supporters in a whimsical way.

We took one look at our amazing grey pony, Pudge, with his flowing mane and magical appearance, and thought....UNICORNS! Who doesn't love a unicorn and a little magic?? So, our unicorn celebration was born! We invite you to join us for a day of magic and make believe and we are working hard behind the scenes, right now, to bring you a special event in 2027.

If you are a food or merchandise vendor, artisan or provide cosplay or other mystical, magical services, please reach out! We are also looking for motivated, experienced people to join our planning and fundraising committee for the 2027 event.
